Regular expressions are extremely useful. They are everywhere, including in Splunk. And they are useful to everyone, not just data administrators onboarding new data. This could be you:

In 2016 I did a talk at Splunk's conference. The first half is an introduction to regular expressions, with a focus on things that trip beginners. The second half is some demonstration of how Splunk users can use regular expressions in their SPL.
